To digitalize mining, the Mining Institute has developed an automated system

The D.A.Kunaev Institute of Mining carries out a number of significant works in relevant areas. Thus, in order to digitalize mining production, an automated positioning system for personnel and mobile equipment in mines has been developed, implemented at the Voskhod-Oriel LLP mine.

Today, the D.A.Kunaev Institute of Mining turned 78 years old. The Institute was organized as part of the Kazakh branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences on the basis of the Resolution of the Council of People's Commissars of the Kazakh SSR dated December 6, 1944. In 1993, it was incorporated into the "National Center for Integrated Processing of Mineral Raw Materials of the Republic of Kazakhstan", in 1994 the institute was named after D.A.Kunaev.

During its existence, the D.A.Kunaev Institute of Mining has made a significant contribution to improving the technique and technology of mining by open and underground methods, creating safe and comfortable working conditions at mining and coal enterprises, rational and integrated use of mineral raw materials, and environmental protection.

Thus, the team of authors was awarded the Lenin Prize for the development of self-propelled mining equipment. For the development of breakthrough technologies and techniques, the Institute's scientists were also awarded the state prizes of the USSR and Kazakhstan, as well as many government and industry awards.

Patents and copyright certificates are issued for the latest developments and technologies. By the way, the Institute has received more than 1,000 of them, including 29 abroad.

The Institute attaches great importance to the training of highly qualified personnel. Thus, 58 doctoral and 473 candidate theses were prepared and defended. Over the years, 9 employees were elected to corresponding members, 5 to full members of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

A number of international scientific and practical conferences were also held not only at the Institute, but also at the largest mining enterprises in the country, including Kostanay Minerals JSC, SSGPO JSC, TNK Kazchrome JSC, Kazakhmys Corporation JSC.

The staff of the Institute are members of the International Organizing Committee of the World Mining Congress, which is the main world-class event in the field of mining and is held in different countries of the world. On June 19-22, 2018, the 25th World Mining Congress was held in Astana for the first time in Kazakhstan and in the CIS countries. The Institute has successfully held 4 leading sessions of the Congress.

There are a number of breakthrough developments in mining engineering as well: a hydraulic pulse drilling rig for drilling large-diameter wells, a hydraulic shock compressor, a steam-hydraulic single-wheeled turbine, and an electromagnetic hammer. Developments are also being tested and put into production at other mining enterprises in the country.
