Standards of life. A conference dedicated to the World Metrology Day was held in Astana.

The Metrological Service of Kazakhstan will celebrate its 90th anniversary next year. During this time, the national measurement system has come a long way in its development. Technical means, approaches, and the level of work carried out have changed. The high importance of metrology in our lives has remained the same. By the way, the International Committee of Weights and Measures, of which Kazakhstan is a full member, annually dedicates its slogan to the role of measurements in various fields of activity.

In recent years, the importance of a high-quality measurement system has been emphasized in innovation, sports, medicine, and trade. This year, experts have drawn attention to the importance of metrology in ensuring safety.

– The safety of transport and road traffic, production equipment, and medicines depends on the reliability of measurement results, says Galymzhan Dugalov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Technical Regulation and Metrology of the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies. – The role of metrology in the integration of the national economy into the international system should also be noted. We are currently engaged in the harmonization of the legislation of the Customs Union countries and are actively preparing for Kazakhstan's accession to the WTO.

Today, the country's state reference base has 101 pieces of equipment. There are 8,214 types of tools registered in the register of the Kazakhstan measurement uniformity system. It should be noted that Kazakhstan is one of the first countries in Central Asia to have its measurement capabilities recognized internationally.

– The standards located in our center are a constant against which enterprises with measuring instruments are checked. Previously, when in the 90s our reference base consisted of only 19 units, Kazakhstani enterprises were forced to check their accuracy abroad. This, of course, was quite expensive," says G. Dugalov.

One of the most famous standards stored in Astana is the time standard. For many years now, the whole country has been checking clocks in the new Kazakh capital, and this year Marat Konkanov, the scientist-keeper of the state standard of time and frequency, became the best in the profession according to the results of the competition. The neutron stationary moisture meter-density meter won the ovation of the jury in the nomination "The best measuring device of the year".
