Vladimir Kim's company may start receiving an additional 3,000 tons of copper annually.

Large copper mining Corporation Kazakhmys, 70% and 30% owned by To Vladimir Kim and Eduard Ogai will be able to receive 3,000 tons of cathode copper annually from landfills, according to the Ministry of Industry and Construction.

"The situation is different with the dumps owned by Kazakhmys Corporation LLP. Due to the complex composition of the forming ores, their processing is significantly difficult. However, the laboratory specialists suggested a rational solution.… The commercialization of the proposed technology will provide an additional output of 3,000 tons of copper cathode per year for nine years," the published message says.

The department notes that, based on the results of a complex of scientific research work, technological regulations have been developed for the processing of off-balance sheet ores and overburden rocks from these landfills. The solution was found by the staff of the laboratory of technological testing of mineral raw materials of the branch of the National Center for Integrated Processing of Mineral Raw Materials of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Eastern Scientific Research Mining and Metallurgical Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals).

The Center has created an efficient technology for processing ores and rocks from the Konyrat mine dumps. The dumps of overburden rocks, off—balance sheet and oxidized ores accumulated during the operation of the deposit represent a huge man-made object - the area of the occupied territory exceeds 15 square kilometers. These dumps are on the balance sheet of two subsurface users – the Konrad Copper Company and the Kazakhmys Corporation.

Konrad Copper Company has been successfully processing already extracted substandard reserves since 2012. They mainly contain oxidized ores, which are malleable from the point of view of processing.

According to Forbes, over the past year (as of early May), Kim's fortune has decreased by $1 billion, to $3.6 billion, which is 887th place in the global ranking of billionaires and fourth place in the Kazakhstan list. Vladimir Kim owns 63.5% of KAZ Minerals Ltd, 70% of Kazakhmys Copper, which includes Kazakhmys Corporation, and 89.79% of RBK Bank.

A significant decrease in the condition is explained by the sale of KAZ Minerals of the Russian copper project "GDK "Baimskaya", purchased from Roman Abramovich (235th place in the global ranking of the richest people on the planet with a capital of $9.7 billion) for $900 million and later sold to Trianon Limited, a company registered in the Astana International Financial Center, owned by Vladimir Kim and Oleg Novachuk (34th among the richest Kazakhstanis with a fortune of $265 million, in 2023 — $615 million), for $200 million. KAZ Minerals' total losses on this project amounted to $2.67 billion.

Eduard Ogai ranks 13th in the list of the richest Kazakhstanis with a fortune of $800 million compared to $750 million in 2023.

Kazakhmys Copper's revenue in 2023 amounted to 1.3 trillion tenge compared to 1.4 trillion tenge in 2022, profit – 109.6 billion tenge (20.4 billion tenge), total assets – 1.9 trillion tenge (1.7 trillion tenge). According to the company's annual report for 2022 (the report has not yet been published for 2023), the company produced 251 thousand tons of copper in concentrate in 2022, which is 6.8 thousand tons more than in 2021; gold in bars – 7.9 tons (+2.2 tons); silver in bars and granules – 308.1 tons (+36 tons). Ore production amounted to 31.1 million tons (+1.3%), the copper content in the extracted ore was 0.98%.
