The National Center for Integrated Processing of Mineral Raw Materials of the Republic of Kazakhstan is actively working on the training of scientific personnel. The chief Scientific Secretary of the RSE "NC KPMS RK", Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor S.V. Efremova spoke about the center's activities in this area during the reporting meeting of the Rector of al-Farabi Kazakh National University G.M. Mutanov.
The National Center for Integrated Processing of Mineral Raw Materials of the Republic of Kazakhstan, established to improve the organization of science and develop the scientific and technical potential of the country, under the leadership of Academician Abdurasul Aldashevich Zharmenov, has been maintaining close cooperation with domestic universities for more than 20 years. Joint activities include conducting training and production practices, training masters and PhD doctors who carry out their research within the framework of the programs and projects of the National Center with subsequent employment. As part of the development of collaboration between universities and scientific organizations in the training of qualified scientific and scientific-technical personnel in areas of priority for the country's economy due to the innovative nature of the activities of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the Department of Technology of Metals and Minerals was established at the RSE "NC KPMS RK" in 2019. Taking into account the fact that the Center employs 35 doctors of sciences, 66 candidates of sciences, 10 PhD doctors, 36 academicians, 8 corresponding members, 57 laureates of various awards, including 20 State Prizes of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of science and technology, the National Center has the opportunity to train staff with the necessary competencies. The center's specialists are directly involved in the educational process at all stages of students' education (bachelor's, master's, doctoral studies). On the other hand, there is a prospect of using the enormous potential of trainees at all educational levels to carry out specific research work at the National Center. So, last year, 6 undergraduates who chose to study at the newly opened department were employed at the National Center in-service from the learning process.
Due to the organizational structure of the National Center, the presence of accredited and certified analytical and research laboratories, design departments and experimental industrial sites and complexes, the company's activities take an integrated approach to the processing of mineral raw materials, namely, the implementation of technological processes from extraction, enrichment to metallurgical processing, including their automation and digitalization. In this regard, the Department of Technology of Metals and Minerals was created as a university-wide department by a bold step on the part of the University.
To date, cooperation has been established with the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology (and training is carried out within the framework of the HTNV specialty). However, taking into account the interdisciplinary format of training specialists, students from related faculties can study at the department: geography and Environmental Management, Biology and Biotechnology, Faculty of Physics and Technology, which is quite realistic due to modular education, as well as through the organization of inter-faculty courses. This will make it possible to implement the learning process at the intersection of sciences to train specialists with a broad outlook, ready to solve multidisciplinary tasks in their future professional activities.
In conclusion, it is worth adding that the National Center has 7 branches located in different cities of Kazakhstan (Almaty, Astana, Karaganda, Ust-Kamenogorsk), so students have a real opportunity to get employment, taking into account their permanent place of residence or simply choosing the city they like.
