Domestic technologies – for export

02.10.2013

Almaty hosted the international conference "Mining and Metallurgical complex on the threshold of the Third Industrial Revolution", which was timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the RSE "National Center for Integrated Processing of Mineral Raw Materials of the Republic of Kazakhstan".

The Center was established in accordance with a Presidential decree and a government decree in 1993 and brought together a number of leading domestic specialized institutes. Such as the Kazkern Institute of Geology and Economics of Mineral Raw Materials, the D. Kunaev Institute of Mining, the J. Abishev Chemical and Metallurgical Institute, the Eastern Research Mining and Metallurgical Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals Vniitsvetmet and a number of others. This made it possible to concentrate the scientific and technical potential of the industry under the management of the National Center, which subsequently provided a systematic solution to problems in the field of exploration, extraction and processing of mineral and man-made raw materials in order to modernize existing and create new enterprises.

For 20 years, the center has become a recognized leader in the field of scientific research projects, a supplier of ideas and technologies of applied importance. And not only for the domestic market. It is no coincidence that, opening the professional forum, the Director General of the center, Abdurasul Zharmenov, shared a forecast plan: in the coming years, to increase sales of new domestic technologies for export to 40-50%. One of the examples confirming the reality of the plans is the planned export of a purely domestic "Kazakh alloy" – ferrosilicon aluminum to a number of Asian and European countries.

During the conference, a number of topical issues related to the development of mineral resources and mining and metallurgical complexes were discussed. Among the topics discussed were technologies in geology and mining; enrichment of poor, off–balance sheet raw materials; environmental aspects of nature management; new technologies for metallurgical processing of mineral and man-made raw materials; issues of industrial waste disposal. Memorandums of cooperation were also signed during the forum.
