The Eastern Research Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals has developed optimal enrichment schemes for the production of copper concentrate

26.01.2023

The scientific staff of the laboratory of technological testing of mineral raw materials of the Eastern Scientific Research Mining and Metallurgical Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals have developed optimal enrichment schemes for obtaining copper concentrate with the maximum possible extraction.

The commercial product of the technology is cathode copper, obtained by depositing copper on metal matrices. In turn, copper cathodes have high purity and quality.

It should be noted that to date, the implementation of the Kazakh-Iranian project has begun. A significant argument for the subsurface user when choosing this research institute of non-ferrous metals as a contractor was the practical experience in carrying out such work, the possibility of testing at the institute's pilot plant, the high qualifications and professionalism of the staff in the field of enrichment and metallurgy.

It should be recalled that cooperation between the Eastern Scientific Research Mining and Metallurgical Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals and the Iranian company Irkaz Metal Corporation LLP began in 2013 with the conclusion of an agreement on the development of technological regulations for the design of a heap leaching site for oxidized copper ores from the Borli deposit. At that time, the Borly deposit, located in the Priozerny district of the Karaganda region, 45 km from the Kounrad mine, was at the stage of calculating reserves and conducting the necessary technological research.

Thus, to solve the tasks of processing oxidized ores with an average copper content of 0.35%, set by Irkaz Metal Corporation LLP, the staff of the laboratory of technological testing of mineral raw materials of the Eastern Scientific Research Mining and Metallurgical Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals have developed optimal enrichment schemes for obtaining copper concentrate with the maximum possible extraction.

To date, all technical and technological solutions of this project have been implemented in production. It is expected that the operation of such plants in Kazakhstan will maximize the processing of copper concentrate in the country and will contribute to the production of high-value-added products.
