The outgoing year 2016 turned out to be quite difficult for the entire humanity of the Earth. It is encouraging that in the context of the growing hypercrisis, thanks to the astute policy of Elbasy, Kazakhstan has adequately approached the important anniversary date – the 25th anniversary of Independence.

Taking into account the upcoming implementation of the largest projects in the world, such as the International Exhibition EXPO-2017, next year is seen as responsible, but at the same time promising tremendous prospects for the development of all spheres of government activity.

Traditionally, the mining and metallurgical industry forms the basis of the country's national economy. Our republic ranks 12th-13th in the world in terms of mining of solid minerals. After the fall in oil prices, the share of foreign currency receipts from the sale of metals in the total balance increased significantly. We know how to trade metal products, we have our own niche in this market.

In 2017, it is expected to increase the production volumes of a number of enterprises for the production of copper, cast iron, refractory products, coke, etc., which were launched this year, and the construction of two large ferroalloy plants in Karaganda and Kyzylorda is expected to begin.

I am pleased to note that all these projects carried out within the framework of the second five-year plan of industrialization involve, to one degree or another, domestic metallurgical science, in particular our National Center for Integrated Processing of Mineral Raw Materials. At the same time, foreign investments amount to billions of dollars, demonstrating, on the one hand, the interest of foreign partners and, on the other, the trust of global business.

In my opinion, next year will be a year of serious growth for Kazakhstani metallurgists, the year of the birth of not only new industries, but also new products. There are really necessary prerequisites for this. The main thing, as the hero of the well-known New Year's movie said, is to see the goal and have the desire to achieve it.

I sincerely congratulate my colleagues-scientists, metallurgists, as well as all compatriots on the New Year! I wish you innovative solutions in modernizing the mining and metallurgical industry, building a competitive knowledge-based economy and a peaceful, bright future!
